AR-10 Gas System Parts, Gas Blocks & Gas Tubes

Most AR-10 barrels use the same .750 low profile gas block as an AR-15, with a gas tube cut to AR-10 length. AllGoOperators stocks hardened steel low profile gas block and stainless gas tube combos, plus the complete .308 uppers that arrive with the gas system installed and timed.

01

Gas Block & Tube Combos

Our low profile gas block and tube combos pair a hardened steel .750 block with a stainless mil-spec tube, roll pin, screws and allen wrench. Pistol-length combos suit short .308 and 8.6 Blackout barrels; carbine and rifle length tubes are stocked in the AR-15 gas category and are identical in the block.

02

Uppers With Gas Installed

Every semi-auto AR-10 complete upper ships with a carbine or mid-length gas system installed with a .750 low profile block.

03

Finish the Upper

Barrel, BCG, charging handle and a rail that clears the block.

AR-10 Gas Anatomy

What Is Different from AR-15

The block is usually the same. The tube and the timing are not.

Same

Shared With AR-15

  • Gas block .750 journal on most AR-10 barrels; same low profile block.
  • Roll pin & screws Identical hardware.
  • Carrier key Same tube diameter enters the key.
  • Handguard clearance Low profile blocks fit under free-float rails.
  • Dimpling Recommended for set-screw blocks on both platforms.
Different

AR-10 Specific

  • Tube length AR-10 receivers are longer; tubes are cut to match.
  • Rifle length A .308 rifle tube is longer than a 5.56 rifle tube.
  • Port size .308 ports are larger; barrels come drilled.
  • Timing Heavier carrier and buffer make the .308 more sensitive to gas.
  • Adjustable blocks Popular on suppressed .308 builds.

Choosing AR-10 Gas Parts

Journal diameter and tube length.

Journal Diameter

Measure the barrel under the gas block position. Most AR-10 barrels are .750; some heavy profiles are .875 or .936 and need a different block.

Tube Length

Match the barrel's gas length and the AR-10 receiver. A 5.56 rifle-length tube is too short for a .308 rifle-length system.

Over-Gassed .308

Many .308 ARs are over-gassed from the factory. A heavier buffer, a heavier carrier, or an adjustable block tames brass ejection and bolt bounce. This matters more with a forced reset trigger.

Simplest Route

Buy a complete upper. The gas system is installed and matched to the barrel.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do AR-10 barrels use the same gas block as AR-15?

Usually. Most AR-10 barrels have a .750 gas journal and take the same low profile block. Heavy .875 or .936 profiles need a larger block.

  • Are AR-10 gas tubes the same as AR-15?

No. AR-10 receivers are longer, so tubes are cut to AR-10 lengths. Pistol-length tubes are close enough to cross over on short barrels; carbine, mid and rifle tubes are AR-10 specific.

  • What gas length do your .308 uppers use?

The 10.5" upper uses carbine-length gas. The 18" stainless upper uses mid-length. Bolt-action style uppers have no gas system.

  • Should I use an adjustable gas block on a .308?

It helps on suppressed rifles and over-gassed builds, and it lets you tune for a forced reset trigger. A heavy buffer and carrier achieve much of the same effect at lower cost.

  • Do gas system parts require an FFL?

No. These are small parts and accessories that ship directly to you in all 50 states with no FFL required.
